Melody heaved her bags into her new cabin, looking around curiously as she set them down on what she could only guess was an empty bed that she could now call her own. She let out an almost sad sigh, sitting down on the bed and staring at her favorite pair of black converse. This wasn't the life for her. She wanted to go back home, back to her dad and their small apartment. Heck, she even wanted to go back to her old middle school, no matter how strange that sounded even to her.
She looked around once more, letting out one more sigh. Oh, well. She would have to suck it up: this was her home now.

Katie was always shy. Fotia, her pet eagle, perched on her shoulder as the daughter of Zeus decided to give herself a tour of camp. She'd been going down in a row, but no one seemed to be in many of the cabins. She wasn't sure if she had any half siblings. She paused at the Athena Cabin because she earlier saw a girl walk in, and she hesitated to knock, not sure if she was on her way to making a new friend or a new enemy.
Fotia squacked loudly and Katie mutterered a curse under my breath. "Shut up," she hissed at her eagle, but obviously the girl in the cabin would hear her. Fotia looked back at the blonde with a look on her eagle face that obvious stated, 'well, do you want to make friends or not, dear?'
Katie coughed and sighed, and then knocked on the door. "Hello?" she called cautiously, slightly nervous. "I was just looking around camp..." her voice started to get smaller and Fotia nipped Katie's ear to make her talk louder. "I was just looking around camp," she repeated, louder, "and the other cabins seemed to be empty..." She cursed herself for sounded so idiotic but stood there awkwardly.

Melody jumped as she heard a strange noise, causing her head to snap up immediately at the sound. She relaxed when she noticed it didn't seem to be some serial killer who had snuck into the camp to murder her (she did tend to have a wild imagination at times) but was simply a girl, her voice ringing out from the door. Melody stood up slowly and opened the door, a small smile on her face. The girl looked almost as bashful as she did. "Come in," she said, happy that she already had someone speaking with her. "I'm Melody. Who are you?"

Katie smiled slightly and took a step into the Athena Cabin. She couldn't help but immediately examine her surroundings. {OOC: I am getting this as described from the book} There were blueprints, old war maps and armor displayed on the walls. The beds were pushed against the wall, and what looked like a metal shed was on one side of the wall.
Katie's attention snapped back as the daughter of Athena-Melody, as she just introduced herself-asked for Katie's name. "I-I-I'm Katie Butler," she stammered, and then cleared her throat and spoke more clearly. "My name is Katie," she repeated.
Katie nudged Fotia, who was still on her shoulder. "This is my eagle, Fotia." Fotia squacked a greeting, looking Melody completely over. "She says 'hello'," Katie injected helpfully. At least, she was pretty sure that was what Fotia said and that what she said was helpful and not annoying. She wasn't what you'd call a 'people person'. [/sup]

Melody continued to smile politely at her, crossing her arms as she watched her look around. Melody herself loved the way that the cabin looked, it seemed almost perfect for her, which she realized was the entire point. No matter how much the place was different from her old home... this was home. It was perfect for her, and she had to know she would grow used to it soon enough. "Oh, well. Hi, Katie!" she said, hoping that she wasn't scaring the girl. She seemed like she was way more shy than even Melody was. She looked over at the eagle, raising an eyebrow, and giggling nervously. "Hi, Fotia." she said.

Fotia screeched friendly. Hmm, that didn't sound right in Katie's mind. She was in the middle of wondering how on earth you could 'screech friendly', when Melody said, "Hi, Fotia."
She sounded slightly nervous. That was what Katie detected, at least, and she was no expert at this stuff, but Katie said, "Fotia's friendly. She only attacks enemies." Then Katie frowned. Maybe I shouldn't have mentioned that she attacked at all... she thought. Then she shrugged in her mind. Too late to take that back.
Fotia screeched again, spreading her pure black wings and taking flight. Katie wanted to scream at her to stop, because usually that scared people, but she kept her mouth shut as Fotia flew around the cabin, showing off her nighttime black feathers. She then proceeded to land on Melody's shoulder. Katie smiled. "I think she likes you," she told the daughter of Athena, feeling slightly amused. [/sup]

Melody grinned widely, watching the bird start to fly. She was relieved to hear that the eagle wouldn't attack her as long as she didn't upset her, something she was sure she wouldn't do. "She's very pretty," Melody commented quietly, before Fiota landed on her shoulder. Her grin only grew wider. "Good. I love animals." she said cheerfully.

Fotia gave Katie her special eagle 'told ya so' look, and Katie glared at her annoying pet before realizing Melody might think the glare was directed at her. "Fotia can be very irritating sometimes," Katie added hastily just in case. Fotia parted her beak to screech something, most likely a retort in whatever eagle language she spoke, but Katie interupted her. "And she also sometimes talks too much." [/sup]

Summer appeared and stumbled out of the shadows, rubbing her eyes. "Oh, wow." She said as she realized where she was. "This clearly isn't the bathroom..." Awkward! "Um...hi."

Katie jumped, slightly surprised. Then she recovered her 'look', and watched the intruder with mild curiousity. "Hello," she finally said. "What are you...?" she let her voice trail of questioningly.
Fotia let out a soft squack from where she perched on Melody's shoulder, and then dive-bombed Summer, her molten brown eyes glittering dangerously. Fotia would've taken off the girl's head if not Katie, just at the last moment, snapped in a sharp voice, "Fotia, no!" Fotia stopped and beat her wings in mid-air before returning to her post on Katie's shoulder.
Katie looked apolegetically at the intruder. "I'm sorry," she apologized, "I-I don't know what's gotten into her. Fotia's usually very nice. She only doesn't like children of Hades and Poseidon. I'm sorry," she repeated.

Summer stared at Fotia. "Wow. She can figure it out. It's okay. Lots of people-animals, even-hate me. It's kind of a natural feeling. And yes, I'm the daughter of Hades."

Fotia squacked, and Katie frowned. "Hate you?" she asked curiously. "Fotia only dislikes you because she's an eagle, the animal of Zeus. And Zeus doesn't mix with Hades well. More Poseidon, but not Hades either."
Fotia squacked in agreement. Katie could almost swear she said something like, "Hades is death. Death is bad."
Katie sighed. "Ignore Fotia, please." And then the daughter of Zeus wondered at how much she had actually spoken today. Normally that was how much she talked in a week.

Summer tried to smile, but miserably failed. "Yeah. I guess I could've guessed I was a halfblood for the way all the teachers that turned out to be monsters looked at me. I guess I had some kind of aura. That made people do what I say." She hesitated, wondering if she said too much. Living alone in the world with no one you could trust can do things to you.

Katie smiled slightly. "You remind me of me," she said, half-heartedly trying to be a slight bit funny. "How many monsters have you run into?" she asked, trying to make conversation. That shocked her even more. Usually people were trying to tempt her to even say one word, and Katie had never tried to talk to someone else.

Summer hesitated. "A lot. More than I can count. They started coming when my oldest brother died in a car crash. Then, my mom and other brothers followed his example." Tears flooded her eyes, and she looked down. God dammit, I suck!
