Singing to Myself-OPEN

[Katie Butler]

<sup>Katie was laying down on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Fotia was standing on a desk, looking just as bored as Katie felt. Sometimes the free time at camp was worse then training, because she honestly was out of things to do. Hoping no one walked in on her, Katie started to sing to herself. She was no Apollo kid, but had been told she was a good singer.

"...'cause Destiny's got her own way of workin' out, and Destiny's not something you can doubt, but Destiny can be changed if you try hard enough...Destiny can never be tamed, still Destiny can always be changed, Destiny's just the start of a road, that you have to finish alone..."</sup>

Summer was about to knock on the Zeus cabin door when she heard singing. Looking in the window, she saw Katie singing. She smiled, and headed for the nearest shadow. She found herself in the corner inside the cabin. She was silent and was careful not to make a single sound, not even breathing.

"I...know...that the future isn't set in stone. It's...true..." Her voice trailed off as she had the distinct feeling she was being watched, like she did a lot of times. Lightning lit up the cabin, and she saw the silhouette of a girl. Summer. Katie stopped singing completely, and sat up straight in her bed. The lightning died off, and Summer was almost invisible now. The shadow really did hide her well. "Come out," she called in a soft voice. "I can see you."</sup>

Summer came out hesitantly, not sure what to make of her friend's calm voice. Whenever her teachers used it at school, it meant they were angry. "Um, hey." Summer said lamely.

^{Katie's mind debated on whether to feel embarrassed, angry, or neutral. She settled on embarrassed, and said, her cheeks colouring pink, "What were you doing?"}

[Summer Anderson]

Summer smiled shyly. "Spying. What else would a daughter of Hades be doing?"

[Katie Butler]

^{Katie turned beet red, like a human tomato. "You...didn't hear that, did you?" she asked, hoping the answer was no. Fotia was also watching the scene, her eyes darting between Summer and Katie repeatedly.}

[Summer Anderson]

Summer smiled brighter than she'd ever smiled for a while. "Yeah, I did. That was really good!"

[Katie Butler]

^{That did nothing to help Katie's embarrassment. "Um...thanks," she muttered nervously. "You heard...all of it?"}

[Summer Anderson]

"Well, not all of it. I came in when you were singing."

[Katie Butler]

^{Katie looked down. "Um...don't tell anyone you heard me, 'kay?" she asked hopefully.}

Summer smiled. "Whatever you want."

[Katie Butler]

^{Katie glared at Summer. "I'm serious," she said.}

Summer nodded. "Yeah, I know."
